Our Lovely Family Holiday in Garut, West Java
Starting Our Journey from Gambir Station
Our family holiday in Garut, West Java, was one of those trips that felt simple but became very memorable.
It was not a luxury trip or a packed overseas holiday. It was simply us spending time together, enjoying good food, beautiful scenery, fresh air, and the little moments that are often hard to find in our busy daily lives.
Our journey started from Gambir Station, where we took an Executive Class train to Garut Station. Travelling by train already felt like part of the holiday. We did not have to worry about traffic or driving for hours. We could sit together, talk, rest, enjoy snacks, and watch the view outside the window.
When we arrived in Garut, the air immediately felt cooler and fresher. The town had a calmer atmosphere compared to Jakarta, and somehow it made us slow down a little.
Exploring Garut and Enjoying Local Food
Of course, food was one of the main highlights of this trip.
We started with warm and comforting bubur ayam and batagor at Ceps Roodey. There is something special about eating bubur ayam in the morning while travelling with family. Simple food, but it always feels better when everyone is together.
We also visited Bumi Upi, where we could relax and enjoy the atmosphere. It was a nice place to take a break, take some photos, and enjoy the moment without rushing anywhere.
Another stop was Piazza Firenze around the famous Sukaregang Leather Centre. Garut is well known for its leather products, so it was fun to walk around and browse bags, shoes, jackets, wallets, and other handmade items.
Then came more food. We had Bakso Gotan, followed by sweet treats from Kastara Chocolate. A family holiday somehow always means eating more than usual, but honestly, that is part of the fun.
Family Moments at Garland Barnville
We also spent time at Garland Barnville, a nice place to enjoy the scenery and take family photos. Seeing the kids enjoy themselves always makes the trip feel more meaningful.
A family holiday is not always about visiting the most famous places. Sometimes, it is about having enough time to sit together, laugh at small things, take too many photos, and simply enjoy being away from the usual routine.
Watching the Sunrise at Mount Guntur
One of the most unforgettable moments was waking up early to watch the sunrise at Mount Guntur.
The sky slowly changed colour, the mountain stood quietly in front of us, and for a while everything felt peaceful. Sometimes, we get too busy thinking about work, responsibilities, plans, and problems.
Watching the sunrise reminded me that it is important to pause once in a while and simply enjoy what is in front of us.
More Food and Garut Souvenirs
Our Garut food journey continued with visits to Gula Padi, RM. Sugema Raya, and of course Toko Oleh-Oleh Hadidjah.
Bringing home local snacks is always a must. It is like bringing a small part of the holiday back home with us.
We also enjoyed another delicious breakfast at Bubur Ayam Sukasenang 2. After a long day of exploring, we had a relaxing evening with coffee and snacks from Warkop Duduk Gembira, ordered through GoFood.
Sometimes the simplest moments become the ones we remember most.
Returning Home on the Panoramic Train
For our trip back home, we experienced something special.
We took the Panoramic Train from Garut Station to Jatinegara Station. The journey took around six hours, but it did not feel tiring because the view was beautiful almost the entire way.
From the large panoramic windows, we could see green rice fields, mountains, small villages, and wide open landscapes. The air outside still looked clean and fresh, far away from the busy city atmosphere.
The train ride home was not just transportation. It became another beautiful part of the holiday.
We could sit together, enjoy the scenery, talk about our favourite moments from the trip, and slowly prepare ourselves to return to Jakarta.
A Simple but Meaningful Family Holiday
This Garut trip reminded me that family holidays do not need to be complicated. We do not always need expensive destinations or perfect plans.
Sometimes, all we need is time together.
A train ride. Good food. Fresh air. Beautiful views. Laughter in between. And people we love beside us.
Thank you, Garut, for the beautiful memories, delicious food, peaceful scenery, and quality time with my lovely family.
Until our next family adventure.
